Is Jurassic Park River Adventure kid friendly?

One of the more popular rides at Universal Studios in Orlando will take you there. On this ride prepare to get a little wet and get a little scared! This family friendly adventure (not for real small children though) takes you on a river ride through Jurassic Park.

The Jurassic Park River Adventure at Universal Islands of Adventure is a "thrill" water ride that may be too intense for very young children. The height requirement is 42 inches (107 cm), and children under 48 inches must be accompanied by a companion. While the first half is a gentle boat tour with "herbivore" dinosaurs, the second half features a dark, "broken" containment area with raptors and a massive T-Rex animatronic that lunges at the boat. The ride concludes with a steep, 85-foot "pitch-black" plunge into a splash pool. In 2026, parents should note that the ride is scheduled for a major refurbishment from January to November, so check your travel dates. If your child is sensitive to loud noises, darkness, or big drops, this may be a "skip." However, for adventurous school-aged kids who love dinosaurs, it is a classic "must-do," provided they don't mind getting quite wet in the final splashdown.
