Is Lake Como better than Lugano?

Lake Como is more scenic than Lake Lugano, BUT.... If you'll have a car, why would you return to Como (town) only to travel north again for Switzerland?? Lake Como's mid-lake area (Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio) is very scenic and more beautiful than the southern terminus. Drive Lake Como's western spur to Mennagio.
