Is LAX or SFO better?

Generally speaking, SFO is a much nicer experience than LAX. Immigration is done in the (still) new international terminal and is less crowded than TBIT at LAX. Hotels are off airport at both, but you have good access to the city from SFO with the BART subway system, so you could overnight in downtown San Franciso.
