Is Lviv at risk?

UNESCO, the UN's cultural organisation, has put Ukraine's two cities Kyiv and Lviv on its 'in danger' list. The reason behind this is that these cities are at risk from Russian invasion.

As of early 2026, Lviv remains at risk, as does all of Ukraine, due to the ongoing Russian invasion. While Lviv is located in the far west of the country and is hundreds of miles from the main frontline, it remains a frequent target of long-range missile and drone attacks. These strikes primarily target critical energy infrastructure, military depots, and logistical hubs, though residential areas have unfortunately been hit. Despite these occasional attacks, the city of Lviv has remarkably maintained its role as a "humanitarian hub," with a relatively normal daily life and many displaced persons seeking safety there. Air raid sirens are common, and residents must still follow strict curfew and shelter protocols. Travelers and humanitarian workers are advised to monitor official safety warnings from their respective governments, as the situation remains fluid and unpredictable, even in the "safer" western regions of the country.
