Yes - That is a very safe area as is nearly all of Manhattan. Travel convenience depends on where you're staying, but MSG has easy access to about 10 subway lines within a few blocks, and tho I never attended an event at that arena, I'd expect all the subway stations will be well populated as a concert is letting out.
