Hot weather with relatively calm winds in the atmosphere and no tropical systems in the Atlantic have allowed sediments in the water to settle to the ocean floor. Less sediment means clearer water! Usually, the atmosphere is more volatile and keeps the ocean churned up.
The beaches throughout the Myrtle Beach area are open, the water is fine and swimming is allowed. We do NOT have a “no swimming” notice or advisory for any beaches in our area. We do test the ocean water twice a week in the summertime at various locations along the Grand Strand.
The area has a nickname, Dirty Myrtle which refers to anything between a type of drink to a mud run. But over the last decade, the nickname's meaning has slipped away from local leaders control over marketing towards the numerous swimming advisories that warn visitors of the poor water quality along the beach.

Residents and visitors are required to wear a cloth face mask in enclosed areas of retail stores, grocery stores, pharmacies, personal care businesses, professional services, gyms and fitness centers, among other locations.
The original wooden Boardwalk was destroyed by Hurricane Hazel in 1954, which gave way to a new concrete based pathway that is still in place today. In 2006, the town voted in favor of upgrading the boardwalk at a cost of $6.4 million dollars.
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Hurricane Ian caused $13.1 million in damages to the City of North Myrtle Beach, according to city spokesperson Donald Graham, WPDE reported. In total, 1,659 properties were either destroyed to moderately damaged, officials said.
MYRTLE BEACH — Damage to residential and commercial properties in the cities of Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach have exceeded $15 million in the wake of Hurricane Ian. Within their respective city limits, North Myrtle Beach saw $13.1 million in damage, while Myrtle Beach saw about $2.6 million in damage.
