November is widely considered one of the best months to visit Japan because it is not "too cold"; rather, it is crisp, dry, and ideal for walking. In major cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, daytime highs typically reach around 17°C (63°F), while nighttime lows drop to about 8°C (46°F). This is the peak season for "Koyo" (autumn foliage), where the maple trees turn brilliant shades of red and gold. While you will need a light jacket or a sweater, it is far from the freezing temperatures of January or February. The skies are generally clear and blue, making it perfect for photography and outdoor exploration. However, if you are traveling to the northern island of Hokkaido or high-altitude areas like the Japanese Alps, you should expect much colder weather and even early snow, but for the "Golden Route" between Tokyo and Hiroshima, November offers some of the most comfortable travel weather of the year.
