Is Odessa Ukraine safe for tourists?

The city centre of Odessa is really safe enough, both in the day time and at night, I'd say it's 9/10. All the local open-air markets are quite unsafe, I'd not recommend you to visit them, in the day time you can be easily pick-pocketed and at night even robbed.

As of early 2026, Odesa, like the rest of Ukraine, remains under a "Do Not Travel" advisory from virtually all major governmental foreign offices, including those of the US, UK, and Australia. While the city is a historic cultural gem on the Black Sea, the ongoing military conflict with Russia poses a severe and unpredictable risk to life. Odesa is frequently targeted by missile and drone strikes aimed at its port infrastructure and energy facilities, which often result in civilian casualties and significant damage to residential areas. Martial law is in effect nationwide, which includes strict curfews and the presence of military checkpoints. Standard travel insurance is almost universally void for travel to active conflict zones, and consular assistance is extremely limited. For these reasons, Odesa is not currently a safe destination for tourism, and travelers are strongly urged to avoid the region until the security situation has fundamentally changed and international travel advisories have been lifted.
