Is Playacar a private beach?

This residential and all-inclusive resort area offers a long stretch of beach for resort guests and visitors vacationing in the vacation homes and condos of the subdivision. All Mexican beaches are public, but we have outlined some unwritten rules that apply to beaches in Playacar.

The entrance can be found towards the south end of 5th Avenue. Take a walk down the pedestrian-only walkway of 5th, and when you reach the end of 5th Ave close to Parque Fundadores, keep going and head towards the iShop.

In the downtown of Playa Del Carmen, the beach is at the end of each perpendicular street, so it is very easy to access the beach.

There are a few beautiful private beach areas in between the rocks. The main gate for Playacar is located just north of Juarez off Hwy 307. You can also walk into Playacar from Playa del Carmen either by walking along the beach or through the mall that is at the ferry docks. Just walk north and you hit Playacar.

TIP: The best and safest areas for swimming are at the beach off the main square, directly to the north of the ferry dock. To the south, in Playacar, there are lots of great swimming areas with few rocks and minimal boat traffic, though there may be a few Jet-skis.

Although many of the all inclusive resorts do spray for mosquitoes and fumigate on a regular basis for other insects, you may want to wear bug repellent especially at dawn and dusk. Some resorts have a lot of tropical vegetation and you may be participating in excursions that take you into the jungle.
