Lufthansa’s Premium Economy is a significant step up from standard Economy, especially on long-haul flights (10+ hours). The most notable difference is the seat: you get roughly 50% more room, with a wider seat, a dedicated armrest (no fighting for space), and a much deeper recline. Unlike Economy, where meals are served on plastic trays, Premium Economy meals are served on fine china. You also get a higher baggage allowance (usually two checked bags) and a "welcome drink" upon boarding. However, it is not "Business Class Lite." You still use the same check-in counters and security lines as Economy passengers, and you do not get lounge access unless you pay an extra fee. If the price difference is less than $400 for an overseas flight, the increased legroom and better sleep quality generally make it a worthwhile investment for most travelers.
