Secret Island Beach (located on the windward side of Oahu, Hawaii) is a public beach, but accessing it can be tricky. Under Hawaii state law, all land up to the high-water mark (typically where the vegetation begins) is public property. However, the land surrounding Secret Island is privately owned by Kualoa Ranch. While the ranch promotes the beach as an exclusive tour destination where paying guests arrive by boat, you can legally visit on your own by parking at Kualoa Regional Beach Park and walking along the shoreline. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes to reach the sand from the public park. While you are free to enjoy the "sun, sand, and sea," you are strictly prohibited from using the ranch's private amenities, such as their kayaks, hammocks, or restrooms. If you want the convenience of transportation and gear, booking the tour is the way to go; if you just want a quiet dip in a beautiful, secluded spot, the public shoreline access is your legal right.
