According to the TSA (and most international aviation security agencies in 2026), stick deodorant is classified as a solid. This is great news for travelers because it means it is not subject to the 3-1-1 liquids rule. You can pack a full-sized stick of solid deodorant in your carry-on bag without needing to put it in a clear quart-sized plastic bag. However, you must be careful with the "type" of deodorant you use. Gel, roll-on, and spray (aerosol) deodorants are all considered liquids or "gels" and must be in containers of 3.4 ounces (100ml) or less to be carried onto the plane. If you have a large 5-ounce gel stick, it will likely be confiscated at security, whereas a 5-ounce solid wax-based stick will pass through without issue. When in doubt, look at the texture: if it’s a hard, dry block, it’s a solid; if it’s a wet roll-on, a clear gel, or a spray, it counts as a liquid in the eyes of airport security.
