The best time for stargazing is when you can't see the moon and the skies are at their darkest — which would be during the time around the new moon. You can check out Discover Moab for more information about the moon phases. However, the park is open year-round, so you can plan your visit for any time of year.
With one busy day you can see the highlights of Arches National Park. But if you want to take your time and explore a few hidden gems and off the beaten path places, plan on spending two days in Arches National Park.
In half a day:Drive the whole park road, spending 10 minutes at each viewpoint, and take a short walk at The Windows Section, Delicate Arch Viewpoint, or Balanced Rock.
Timed entry tickets will allow visitors to enter the park during a one-hour window. For example, a 7 am ticket will allow entry between 7:00 and 7:59 am. Visitors may enter the park before 7 am and after 4 pm without a timed entry ticket.
You could easily spend several days exploring the trails here, so visiting Arches National Park in one day requires some planning ahead to make sure you don't miss the best scenery. Especially since the park often hits capacity by 8 or 9 a.m. during the busy season and the entrance gates close for several hours.
Mostly nocturnal animals include kangaroo rats, woodrats (also called packrats), and most other small desert rodents, skunks, ringtails, foxes, bobcats, mountain lions, bats, and owls.
The best time of day to visit Mesa Arch is at sunrise! The sunrise causes Mesa Arch to catch fire (not literally, but it looks like it!). Mesa Arch's underside turns bright orange, like hot coals in a fire. This phenomenon alone is enough to make a sunrise trip to Mesa Arch worth it.
Delicate Arch at NightEssentially the hike is the exact same but here are some tips and bit from our experience:FOLLOW THE ROCK STACKS (later learned these are called rock cairns) We have come to the conclusion that these were created to help you find your way and navigate.
Sunset was at about 8:30 and you'll need to stay until about 10:30 for adequate darkness. We saw clusters of stars in deep space that we'd never seen before. The walk down in the dark was exhilarating and the cairns marked the trail well. This is one of the country's best NPs, and I highly recommend this exercise.
