Camping. The campground is open year-round. There are 91 camping sites, one bicycle site and one group site. Call 800-444-7275 or go online for reservations.
Tents/Cabanas should not exceed 12' x 12' and anchor tie-downs must be installed as manufacturer requires. There must be a 10 foot space between tents. Place rear of tent in alignment with the two adjacent beach trash can poles.
Sunset State Beach Campground has 85 campsites, divided into 3 sections - Dunes Camp, Pine Hollow Camp, and South Camp. Nine of the campsites are limited to RVs or trailers and another 11 are tent-only sites. The rest can accommodate RVs, trailers, and tents. There is also a Group Campsite and a Hike & Bike campsite.
Factors leading to the decision to keep the campground closed in 2022 include: The potable water system, restrooms, and restroom wastewater system do not meet current health and safety requirements and Forest Service guidelines.
Sunset BeachIt's one of the remaining beaches to offer parking for free in Brunswick County. However, parking at the pier is $10 per day with seasonal passes available through a lottery.
Many visitors take right to the water, enjoying boogie boarding, skim boarding, and swimming. Dangerous rip currents at Sunset warrant caution. It is not the best swimming beach for young children. Experienced surfers venture out to ride the waves.
It holds in place the sand that helps protect barrier islands from storms. Smoking is prohibited on Wrightsville Beach but allowed on many other beaches. Placing cigarette butts in the sand is littering. It's also nasty and is prohibited at all N.C. beaches.
1800 Gulf Rd. Lay of the Land: Located at the west end of Gulf Road, Sunset Beach Park is a favorite with both locals and visitors for picnics, swimming and boat launching. This is the perfect beach to go to if you want to escape the crowds.
