Is the Alaska Railroad GoldStar worth it?

My husband and I took the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Fairbanks, stopping for the night in Denali. We upgraded to Gold Star in the domed car for the first half, Anchorage to Denali and I am glad we did. The seats are up higher because the dining car is in the bottom of the car.
