Is the musical garden in Versailles worth it?

The fountains are spread out over a huge space with a palace as their backdrop and a grand canal in the forefront. I don't think march 31 would be as crowded as July, but even if it was, I'd go. I think that Versailles is at it's most beautiful when the fountains are on!

We felt it was a waste of money because if you exit the palace and walk down the street on either side past the palace you will come to gates where you can get in for free. They will charge you for the baroque/musical garden area because you can see most of it at the gates without paying.
