Is The Secret Lagoon Iceland man-made?

The Secret Lagoon is a man-made pool fed by naturally occurring hot springs located at Hverahólmi, the geothermal area next to the village of Flúðir in southern Iceland. It is the oldest pool in the country, and one of the most popular for locals and tourists alike.

YES! It is mandatory to shower without swimsuit before entering the lagoon. It is part of the Icelandic culture to do so and considered disrespectful if you do not shower. This rule is there for your health and safety as well, as we do not use any chemicals in the lagoon.

Compared to the Blue Lagoon, Sky Lagoon or Laugarvatn Fontana, the Secret Lagoon is probably the best in terms of price. The pros that this lagoon offers are that it is located in an ideal location, especially for those who want to relax after a trip in the Golden Circle and end the day with a swim.

The Secret Lagoon entrance package is generous, as you can stay there as long as you want. However, most visitors stay there 1 to 2 hours. The pool is popular for good reason, it would be a real shame to go to the Golden Circle region without stopping there.

Are swim suits required at the Blue Lagoon? Bathing suits are worn in and around all areas of the bathing lagoon, including the sauna. You can bring your own, or rent them from reception. You can also rent towels and bathrobes.

Admission includes using our shower facilities, lockers and soaking in our geothermal lagoon, known as the oldest pool in Iceland. It is a one-way ticket. Extras such as towel and swimsuit rental, drinks and snacks are not included in the basic admission fee and can be purchased at reception.
