Is there a private apartment at the top of the Eiffel Tower?

Pictured above is an illustration of the Eiffel Tower's original crown design. You can see the main observation deck, which is packed with people, all enjoying the view atop the tallest building in the world. Unbeknownst to them, however, is the private apartment located on the floor just above them.

Even though the apartment is located on the highly popular Eiffel Tower top floor, it's is off-limits for visitors. However, it is opened every once in a while. The apartment now sports two wax figures of Thomas Edison and Gustav Eiffel and recreates the setting they worked in.

When the Eiffel Tower opened in Paris in 1889, it was discovered that the designer, Gustave Eiffel, had actually included his own private apartment right near the top of the tower.

Visiting time to the Eiffel Tower is not limited. However we recommend that you plan sufficient visiting time at the end of the evening (i.e. around 1 1/2 hours for a visit to the 2nd floor and 1st floor and 2 1/2 hours for a full visit up to the top).

There are free toilets on all floors of the Tower (1st, 2nd and the top) as well as on the parvis. There are baby changing facilities on all floors (parvis, 1st, 2nd) apart from the top of the Tower.

There is an observation deck at the top of the tower. A. It takes anywhere between 30 and 45 minutes to walk up the Eiffel Tower stairs, and about 20 minutes to walk down the stairs.
