Is there a shower on VIA Rail?

Shower amenities are provided in your cabin (towels, shampoo and soap). Additional amenities are available in Prestige class. At VIA Rail, safety is our top priority. Our onboard staff will take you through our procedures shortly after boarding.

Yes, there are showers available on VIA Rail, but they are exclusively reserved for passengers traveling in Sleeper Plus or Prestige Class on long-haul routes like "The Canadian" (Toronto to Vancouver) or "The Ocean" (Montreal to Halifax). In Sleeper Plus, guests have access to a shared shower room located at the end of each sleeping car; the train provides a "shower kit" that includes towels, soap, and shampoo. For those traveling in the ultra-luxury Prestige Class, each private cabin features its own ensuite bathroom with a private shower. Unfortunately, if you are traveling in "Economy" or "Berths" (unlocked sections), you do not have access to shower facilities. In 2026, the shared showers are cleaned regularly by the onboard service staff, and while they are compact, they are a vital amenity for the 4-day transcontinental journey. It is a "pro-tip" to time your shower for when the train is stopped at a major station like Winnipeg or Edmonton to avoid the swaying motion of the tracks while you are lathering up.
