As of early 2026, there is no direct passenger train service running the full distance from Harare to Victoria Falls. Historically, the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) operated a service on this route, but it has been largely suspended or unreliable for several years. To travel by rail from the capital to the Falls, you would typically have to take a train from Harare to Bulawayo (which has recently seen some weekly restoration) and then catch a separate overnight sleeper train from Bulawayo to Victoria Falls. The Bulawayo-to-Vic Falls leg is the most popular for tourists, as it passes through Hwange National Park and offers the chance to see wildlife from the window. However, the equipment is often quite dated (dating back to the 1950s), and the journey is very slow. For a luxury experience, the Rovos Rail and Shongololo Express offer high-end "hotel on wheels" journeys that include Victoria Falls, but these are expensive private tours rather than standard public commuter services.
