While there isn't one single train that goes from Interlaken to a "top," there is a world-famous series of interconnected trains that take you from Interlaken Ost to the "Top of Europe" at the Jungfraujoch. This journey is a masterpiece of Swiss engineering. From Interlaken, you first take a train to either Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald. From there, you transfer to the Wengernalpbahn (a cogwheel railway) to reach Kleine Scheidegg, which sits at the foot of the Eiger North Face. The final leg of the journey is the Jungfraubahn, which travels through a tunnel carved directly into the Eiger and Mönch mountains, ending at the highest railway station in Europe at 3,454 meters. In 2026, the "Eiger Express" tricable gondola from Grindelwald Terminal also offers a faster way to reach the halfway point, but the traditional train remains the most iconic experience. Additionally, for a different "top," you can take the Harderbahn funicular from Interlaken directly to Harder Kulm, which offers the "Two Lakes Bridge" and a spectacular view of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks in just 10 minutes.
