Starting in 2022, Amtrak's Ethan Allen Express train, which currently travels from New York City to Rutland, VT via Albany, NY, and Castleton, VT, will extend service beyond the current line's terminus in Rutland and continue north to Burlington, with new planned stops in Middlebury and Vergennes.
Vermont is a nationally renowned part of New England for its breathtaking scenery, most notably the Green Mountains, which transfer each fall into incredible displays of red, yellow, vermillion, and brown. One way to view the foliage is by train on the Vermont Rail System and Green Mountain Railroad.
Community Highlights. Burlington is designated as a Silver-level community due to its great Complete Streets projects, traffic calming practices, and staff time dedicated to gathering public input. The city also has a 21.5 percent walking mode share and nearly 100 percent sidewalk coverage.
A short walk from Church Street takes visitors to nearby Burlington Waterfront Park, offering ferry crossings, excursion boats, and a 12.5-mile walking/bike path that connects to the Lake Champlain Islands via bike ferry in summer.
