American Airlines is currently in a state of transition regarding its "First Class" branding. In 2026, American has largely phased out "Flagship First" on its international fleet (replacing it with the new, high-end "Flagship Suite" business class product). This "Flagship Suite" features privacy doors, lie-flat beds, and direct aisle access, effectively bridging the gap between traditional Business and First Class. However, American still offers "First Class" on domestic flights and short-haul international routes (like those to Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean). This domestic First Class consists of a larger, wider seat with more legroom, premium snacks or meals, and priority boarding, but it does not feature a lie-flat bed. So, while the "International First Class" as a distinct tier above Business is disappearing to make room for more consistent premium seating, the name "First Class" is very much alive for the thousands of domestic flights that form the backbone of American's network.
