Is TransLink only in Vancouver?

TransLink is responsible for various modes of transportation in the Metro Vancouver region as well as the West Coast Express, which extends into the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD).

Technically, TransLink is specific to Metro Vancouver, but it covers a vast region of 21 municipalities, one Electoral Area, and one First Nation. It is not limited to the "city" of Vancouver; its network spans from North Vancouver down to White Rock and as far east as Langley and Maple Ridge. TransLink manages the SkyTrain (Expo, Millennium, and Canada Lines), the SeaBus, the West Coast Express commuter rail, and an extensive bus network. In 2026, TransLink is also the primary coordinator for the FIFA World Cup transit plan, moving millions across the entire metropolitan area. While other cities like Victoria use BC Transit, the "TransLink" brand and the Compass Card payment system are unique to the lower mainland of British Columbia. If you are traveling between cities like Burnaby, Surrey, or Richmond, you are still within the TransLink jurisdiction. By 2026, the system has fully integrated contactless credit/debit payments, making it one of the most accessible regional transit authorities in North America.
