A "travel number" is a generic term that can be confusing because it is not a standard official document identifier like a passport number. In most cases, if a booking site asks for a travel number, they are referring to your Passport Number, which is the unique, permanent alphanumeric code found on the data page of your passport. However, in specific contexts, a travel number could refer to a Known Traveler Number (KTN) used for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry, or even a Redress Number for those who have been misidentified on watchlists. It is definitively not the same as a "Passport Tracking Number," which is a temporary code used only to monitor the status of your application while it is being processed. Once you receive your physical passport, the tracking number becomes irrelevant. When filling out international airline tickets or visa applications, you should always provide the actual passport number from your current, valid document, as using a tracking or temporary reference number will result in a denial of boarding or entry at the border.
