Is Turkey hot in April?

April is spring in Turkey and the weather is warm, but not hot, in much of the country: Istanbul, Ankara, Cappadocia, and Konya see average monthly temperatures of around 60-62°F (16-17°C), while Antalya and Cappadocia are a few degrees warmer, at 68-69°F (19-20°C).

April in Turkey is generally considered "mild" or "pleasantly warm" rather than "hot." It is a classic "shoulder season" month where the weather is ideal for sightseeing without the stifling heat of the summer. In Istanbul, daytime temperatures usually hover around 16°C to 18°C (61°F–64°F), which is perfect for walking through the Sultanahmet district or taking a Bosphorus cruise, though evenings can still be quite chilly. In the southern "Turquoise Coast" regions like Antalya or Fethiye, it is slightly warmer, with highs reaching 21°C to 23°C (70°F–73°F). While you might see people sunbathing on the beach, the Mediterranean and Aegean seas are still quite cold (around 17°C/63°F), so it isn't prime swimming weather yet. April is also the month of the Istanbul Tulip Festival, meaning the city is in full bloom and visually stunning. You should expect occasional rain showers, especially in the northern parts of the country, so packing layers and a light waterproof jacket is essential. For those looking to explore the ruins of Ephesus or the "fairy chimneys" of Cappadocia, April provides clear skies and comfortable temperatures for outdoor exploration.

Whilst there were a couple of instances where I felt (just a little) uncomfortable, I felt completely safe travelling alone in Turkey as a woman.
