Tybee was extremely important because of its location at the mouth of the Savannah River. In 1736, Oglethorpe had a lighthouse and small fort constructed here to ensure control of river access. Also in 1736, John Wesley, the “Father of Methodism”, said his first prayer on the American continent at Tybee.

In October the ocean temps can be quite warm BUT if there's a hurricane the ocean temp can drop by 10 degrees instantly. The mid/end of Sept. ocean temp w/out hurricanes is about 87 degrees. It starts to cool off and probably should be about 80 degrees in early/mid October, depending on hurricanes.

This beach is huge, parking is $2.00 per hour 2 hour minimum. There can be sand fleas but I did not get a bite, one friend may have. The water was warm like a bath, clean and clear. Bath house could have had toilets washed, but otherwise it was basically a clean beach bathroom.
