Is Uber Eats no contact?

The safety and well-being of everyone who uses Uber Eats is always our priority. We have updated our delivery experience to be as contactless as possible: all deliveries are now contact-free and we have communicated to Eaters that all orders will be delivered this way.

Yes, Uber Eats is fundamentally a “no-contact” delivery service by design. The default expectation is that the delivery person will leave your order at your door, take a photo for proof, and then leave without any physical interaction.

However, the level of contact can vary based on your specific instructions and the delivery location. Here’s a breakdown:

Standard No-Contact Delivery (The Default)

  • How it works: After the driver arrives, they will place the order at your specified location (e.g., “At my door”), take a photo, and notify you via the app.
  • Your role: You can grab your food after the driver has left. This minimizes contact for both parties.

How to Ensure a No-Contact Delivery

To make sure your delivery is contactless, you can add instructions in the app: 1. During checkout or after placing an order, go to the delivery instructions section. 2. Select options like “Leave at door” or “Leave at the door: Knock/Don’t knock.” 3. You can also write custom instructions (e.g., “Leave on the bench by the door,” “Leave with concierge”).

When Contact Might Occur

While rare, there are exceptions: Building Access: If you live in an apartment or secure building and don’t provide a gate code or specific instructions, the driver may need to call you to gain entry. “Meet at door” or “Meet outside” Instructions: If you (or someone who placed the order) accidentally selects this option, the driver will wait for you.
