Is Universal fun in the rain?

Some of our favorite non-ride activities include the wand experience at Ollivanders, the Bourne Stuntacular and the Universal Horror Make-Up Show. As we mentioned before, Universal Studios Florida is the ideal park for stormy weather. Hop in a queue for an indoor ride, or get some souvenir shopping done.

Ride a roller coaster The outdoor rides, especially the roller coasters, will shut down if there is any thunder or lightning in the area, but, if it's just raining, they will usually remain operational.

It is wise, however, to bring along some type of rain gear, as storms can spring up rather quickly. A small fold-up umbrella can protect you until you can get to shelter. If you forget your gear, rain ponchos can be purchased throughout the parks for about $6 for a child-size poncho, or $8 for an adult size.

Make sure you've got strong swimmers if you plan to do the Ohno and Ohyah drop slides. These two body slides plunge into a 10-foot-deep pool! Volcano Bay does not provide any free towels, so be sure to bring your own if you do not want to rent them (it costs $7).

And as a general rule of thumb guests can wear their Harry Potter robes on some rides at Universal as long as it is not a safety issue. Team members will ask guests to remove their robes prior to riding if they do believe it's for the safety of the guests.

Single-Time Use Lockers at Attractions Standard-sized lockers (14 in x 5.5 in x 16.9 in): for small loose articles are free while you ride. Larger lockers (12 in x 13 in x 16.9 in) for oversized items can be rented for an additional fee.

This doesn't mean that you will be rained out on your vacation… but you might want to have ponchos or a mini-umbrella packed in your diaper bag/purse. The rain (or thunderstorm) usually lasts for about 30 minutes, then moves on.
