Velocity Frequent Flyer, is the Frequent Flyer program of Virgin Australia. Membership is free and you can start earning Points and Status Credits from the moment you join. You can then Redeem Points with Velocity partners and when you fly with Virgin Australia.
The airline along with Virgin Holidays is controlled by a holding company, Virgin Atlantic Limited, which is 51% owned by the Virgin Group and 49% by Delta Air Lines.
It's called code sharing. Delta and Virgin are partners (Delta owns 49% of Virgin Atlantic and effectively controls it). In code sharing, an airline sells seats on another carrier's flights under its own name. So Delta (operates by Virgin) means a Virgin aircraft, sold under a Delta flight number.
Virgin Atlantic filed for Chapter 15 bankruptcy protection in New York on 4 August 2020 as part of a £1.2 billion private refinancing package. The airline joined the SkyTeam airline alliance on 2 March 2023.
