The Preservation Trust offers guided tours of the house and gardens. While not all the rooms are open, the tours help to tell the story of this great estate.
Explore the extensive parkland and gardens surrounding this Grade I listed country house in the village of Wentworth, near Rotherham. The circular walk starts in Wentworth village and picks up the Rotherham Round long distance trail to take you into Wentworth Park.
The house is now owned by the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust whose sole purpose is regeneration of the site for the benefit of South Yorkshire. The house is now open to the public, Tuesday to Sunday, for morning tours, afternoon free-flow exploration and events.
It has the longest façade of any country home in Europe at over 600 feet in length. It is more than twice the length of Buckingham Palace; the physical footprint of the house is enormous!
The Trust bought the house in 2017 for £7 million after a five-year campaign led by Rotherham businesswoman Dame Julie Kenny DBE DL and SAVE and embarked on a programme of mixed-use regeneration which will take up to two decades to deliver and will cost over £130 million.
