Is York worth visiting at Christmas?

York is a beautiful city at any time of year, but its narrow Tudor streets and original old buildings make it feel extra special at Christmas. This ancient walled city has Roman roots and a Viking history, much of which is still visible in its street names, monuments, and museums.

Visiting York in January and February is a great idea. Unlike many other destinations, York does not shut down during the winter months. Following the Christmas and New Year holidays, York set about welcoming visitors for a pretty special winter break.

You need at least three days to really see the main highlights (though a “quick hits” tour could be done in a two-day NYC itinerary). However, I suggest 4-5 days to see the main sights without rushing too much.
