Visiting Miami in the summer (June through August) is a classic "trade-off" scenario. On the positive side, it is the cheapest time to visit; luxury hotels in South Beach often drop their rates by 40% to 50% compared to the peak winter season, and you won't need reservations for the city's top restaurants. However, you must be prepared for the extreme heat and humidity. Daily highs regularly hit 90°F (32°C), but the "feels like" temperature often exceeds 100°F (38°C) due to the moisture. Summer is also the heart of hurricane season and the daily rainy season; expect a torrential downpour nearly every afternoon, though these usually only last 30–60 minutes before the sun returns. If you are a "beach person" who enjoys warm ocean water and doesn't mind spending midday in the AC or a pool, it's a great deal. If you hate sweating the moment you step outside or are worried about your travel plans being disrupted by a tropical storm, you might prefer the "shoulder" months of April or November.
