Should you visit Disneyland or California Adventure first?

If it's your first time visiting, we recommend you begin the trip at Disneyland Park for a feel of the original Disney magic across its nine themed lands: Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Frontierland, Critter Country, Fantasyland, New Orleans Square, Tomorrowland, Mickey's Toontown, and Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge®.

In 2026, if you only have one day, you should almost always visit Disneyland Park first at "rope drop" (opening time). Disneyland contains the highest concentration of classic attractions and the most popular land, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. By starting here at 8:00 AM, you can knock out "E-ticket" rides like Space Mountain or Rise of the Resistance before wait times peak at noon. Then, use a Park Hopper ticket to move over to Disney California Adventure (DCA) in the late afternoon. DCA is generally better for evening atmosphere, particularly in Cars Land when the neon lights turn on, and it offers the "World of Color" nighttime spectacular. Furthermore, DCA is home to the Avengers Campus, where wait times for WEB SLINGERS often dip during the dinner hour. If you are staying at a Disney resort and have "Early Entry," checking which park offers it on your specific day should be your deciding factor, but for the "classic" experience and better morning efficiency, Disneyland remains the primary starting point for most savvy visitors.

For teens, I would probably opt for California adventure. At the back of the park is the pier which has a bunch of beefed up carnival rides which teens may like better than the mostly tamer rights of Disneyland. It's still very Disney so they can still run around and get pictures with characters, etc.
