As of early 2026, Amber Hoopes has never been found, and her disappearance remains one of Idaho's most high-profile cold cases. Amber vanished late on the night of September 14, 2001, from her grandparents' home in Idaho Falls after she went to their adjacent auto body shop to use a computer. While her body has not been recovered, the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office has long maintained that she was likely abducted and killed. Investigators identified a primary suspect, Keith "Mark" Hescock, a neighbor who had a history of violence and was later killed in a shootout with police in 2002. Evidence, including a suspicious truck and a mysterious missed call, linked Hescock to the scene, but without a confession or the discovery of remains, the case cannot be officially closed. Her family continues to seek answers, and the case is frequently featured on cold-case platforms and "missing person" databases in hopes that new forensic technology or a tip from the public will eventually lead to the recovery of her remains.
