Was Tower of Terror ever in Disneyland?

The Tower of Terror was an icon of Disneyland for nearly 13 years until a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction replaced it in 2017. Modeled after an attraction of the same name at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Disneyland's Tower of Terror opened on May 5, 2004.

No, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror was never located inside Disneyland Park in California; however, it was a flagship attraction at the adjacent Disney California Adventure Park. The California version of the ride opened in 2004 in the Hollywood Land area. It operated for 13 years before closing in January 2017 to be reimagined as Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!. While the ride system and the 183-foot-tall structure remain the same, the "Twilight Zone" theme was completely replaced with Marvel Cinematic Universe characters and music. This version of the tower eventually became the anchor for the Avengers Campus, which opened in 2021. To see the original "Twilight Zone" version of the attraction in 2026, you must visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris, or a unique variant at Tokyo DisneySea.
