What age should you go Interrailing?

There is no age limit for Interrail. But there are different prices depending on your age. Children up to 11 years travel free of charge with their parents and Interrail. From 12 to 27 years you will receive the youth rate.

There is no single "perfect" age to go Interrailing, as the experience adapts to different life stages, but the most popular time is between 18 and 25. For young adults, it is a rite of passage that offers independence, budget-friendly "Youth" pass pricing, and a vibrant social scene in hostels across Europe. However, Interrailing is increasingly popular for "30-somethings" who appreciate "flashpacking"—combining rail travel with boutique hotels and fine dining. For those over 60, the Senior Pass offers a 10% discount, making it an excellent way to see the continent in comfort. In 2026, many families also utilize the pass because children under 12 often travel for free with an adult. Whether you are a student on a gap year seeking adventure or a retiree looking for a scenic and sustainable way to tour the Mediterranean, the flexibility of the rail network ensures that Interrailing is a rewarding experience regardless of the decade of life you are currently enjoying.
