As of early 2026, Delta Air Lines maintains its position as the carrier with the highest number of daily flight departures and the largest seat capacity at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). LAX is a uniquely competitive "battleground" hub where four major airlines—Delta, United, American, and Southwest—all maintain significant operations, but Delta has invested billions into its "Delta Sky Way" project at Terminals 2 and 3 to solidify its dominance. On average, Delta operates over 150 daily departures to nearly 60 destinations from LAX. While Southwest Airlines often carries a high volume of domestic passengers, particularly on short-haul West Coast routes, Delta’s extensive international network and high-frequency transcontinental "shuttle" routes to New York and Atlanta give it the edge in total flight volume. American Airlines previously held the top spot for many years, but recent strategic shifts have seen Delta pull ahead in market share. For travelers, this means Delta offers the most connectivity, but also utilizes some of the newest and most modern terminal facilities currently available at the airport.
