What alcohol is Barcelona known for?

Cava. Also known as Spanish wine, Cava is often the drink of choice for locals in Barcelona. You'll find all kinds of establishments selling Cava, and you can even get it relatively cheap. But don't worry, it's still often a very high-quality beverage.

Barcelona and the wider Catalonia region are world-renowned for Cava, a high-quality sparkling wine produced using the traditional method (the same as Champagne). Approximately 95% of all Cava is produced in the nearby Penedès region. Beyond bubbles, the city has a deep-rooted Vermouth (Vermut) culture; locals often partake in "la hora del vermut" (the vermouth hour) before Sunday lunch, enjoying a glass of red vermouth over ice with an olive and an orange slice. Additionally, the region is famous for its Priorat and Penedès wines, which are robust and prestigious. In the summer, you will also see locals drinking Xoriguer gin (often as a Pomada) or the ubiquitous Estrella Damm lager, which has been brewed in Barcelona since 1876 and remains a staple of the city's vibrant bar scene.
