What animal drinks the most water?

1. The land mammal who consumes the most water per pound of bodyweight is the cow. A single cow used for her milk on an industrial feed lot can consume up to 100 gallons of water a day during hot summer months, and that adds up. An estimated 55% of the USA's freshwater supply goes to raising animals for food.

The African Elephant is the land animal that drinks the most water, consuming between 40 and 55 gallons (150–200 liters) in a single day. An adult male can drink an entire bathtub's worth of water in less than five minutes. However, if you consider water intake relative to body weight, the dairy cow is often considered the "thirstiest" animal, needing roughly 30 to 50 gallons daily just to produce milk. In the wild, camels are famous for their ability to drink up to 20–30 gallons in a single "refuel" session, but they go weeks without drinking between these events. Interestingly, the Blue Whale technically processes the most water through its body, but because it lives in the ocean and derives its hydration primarily from the moisture in the fish and krill it consumes, it doesn't "drink" in the traditional sense like a land mammal. On land, the elephant remains the undisputed king of daily water consumption, often smelling water sources from several kilometers away.
