Pluto is a dog, specifically a non-anthropomorphic Bloodhound. Unlike Goofy, who is also a dog but walks upright, wears clothes, and speaks, Pluto remains a "traditional" pet who belongs to Mickey Mouse. He was introduced in 1930 in the cartoon The Chain Gang (though he was unnamed and portrayed as a bloodhound on a trail) and later given the name Pluto in 1931's The Moose Hunt, reportedly named after the then-newly discovered planet. His design features a golden-yellow coat, a green collar, and long, floppy black ears, which are classic characteristics of a bloodhound. Because he doesn't speak and relies on physical comedy and facial expressions to communicate, he is often seen as the most "realistic" animal in the Disney main cast. His role as Mickey's loyal companion has made him one of the "Sensational Six," alongside Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy, symbolizing the pure bond between a human (or mouse) and their faithful canine friend.
