The "fallen letters" are a famous Easter egg found in the lobby of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Walt Disney World. Located between the two non-functional guest elevators is a directory board that once listed the various amenities of the Hollywood Tower Hotel. Several of the white plastic letters have seemingly "fallen" from the board and landed at the bottom of the glass case. Originally, these letters were arranged to spell out the ominous warning "EVIL TOWER U R DOOMED." This was a cheeky nod to the ride's supernatural theme. However, following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Disney chose to alter the letters out of respect and sensitivity to the tragedy involving falling towers. For many years after, the letters were rearranged to spell the less aggressive phrase "TAKE THE STAIRS." In 2026, the display remains a favorite detail for fans, serving as a reminder of the ride's intricate storytelling and the subtle ways Disney Imagineers interact with the guests' environment.
