Currently, the SpaceX facility here in South Padre Island employs around 500 people working around the clock to prepare new spacecraft and prepare for upcoming launches. Here on South Padre Island, the launch site for SpaceX is often referred to as Starbase.
Development and manufacturing of Starship takes place at Starbase, one of the world's first commercial spaceports designed for orbital missions. Located in Cameron County, Texas near the Gulf of Mexico, Starbase is one of four active launch sites in the United States operated by SpaceX.
Alternatively, head to the beach and watch the launch from the comfort of a beach chair.Rocket launches can be seen throughout Florida depending on the trajectory with the best views from Merrit Island, Orlando, Daytona Beach, Melbourne, and Vero Beach.
Daytona Beach is north of the launch pads and a great place to view the rocket launches. Launch Pad 39 C is the closest launch site just south of Daytona.
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex offers the closest public viewing of launches, as well as launch commentary, bleacher seating and access to exhibits and attractions. Launch viewing tickets are available for some — but not all — launches, depending on date and time of the launch.
