Heathrow operates flights from airlines such as British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and KLM, all of which transport pets. Pet flights to and from Heathrow must be organised in advance with the airline.
Pets in the cabinYou can bring 1 cat or dog with you in the cabin when travelling in Economy Class, or when travelling in Business Class within Europe. Your pet should fit in a closed pet travel bag or kennel with a maximum of 46 x 28 x 24 cm because they'll need to travel underneath the seat in front of you.
Pets traveling in the cabin need to stay inside a carrier. Carrier requirements may change from airline to airline, but dogs should be able to stand naturally and turn around inside it without touching the sides or top. Can my cat or dog sit on my lap? No.
They accept cats and dogs only (with the exception of breeds listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act and most snub nosed pets). Your pets are allowed on the flight when transported in the hold, a ventilated and pressurised part of the aircraft.
Aer Lingus does not accept pets in the cabin of the aircraft with the exception of trained and certified assistance dogs. Assistance dogs flying within the EU must be trained by an organization associated with Assistance Dogs International or International Guide Dog Federation serving disabled passengers.
The whole process of flying can be stressful for a dog, but those levels of stress can be greatly reduced with a few simple home comforts and reassurances. Ensuring your flight is a non-stop flight rather than one with changeovers can be a huge benefit to your dog, as can looking to travel at a suitable time.

1 cat or dog per passenger is allowed, maximum 4 per flight. The animal needs to be at least 12 weeks old and needs to travel in a sealed cage, specifically made for air travel. Dogs with flat snouts will not be accepted. When in the cage, the animal must be able to turn around its axis and stand completely upright.
Does my pet qualify for travel in the passenger cabin? A small cat or dog is allowed in the Economy class cabin of all KLM flights and in the Business class cabin on KLM flights within Europe. The pet must be in a hard shell kennel no higher than 20 cm (7.9 in), allowing the pet to stand up and lie down comfortably.
However, some airlines just don't allow pets in the cabin and to ensure that no passengers suffer from an allergic reaction while on board. Airlines must choose to put the needs of their human passengers first.
