What can I bring on Irish Ferries?

You can bring as much hand luggage as you can comfortably carry, but it must be packed in a suitcase or bag. No boxes or loose items are acceptable as hand luggage. One small piece of hand luggage will be permitted to be carried with you – the rest will be checked through our luggage handling facility.

Foot passengers cannot transport firearms, ammunition or any other item considered to be a dangerous weapon, such as bows and arrows, knives (including chef's knives) swords etc, on board our vessels.

It is compulsory for all passengers (including babies) to have their own valid passport or officially recognised European Union I.D. card when travelling to and from Ireland or France. In some cases, a visa may also be required.

How many bags can I bring on the ferry? Walk-on passengers are allowed up to 100 pounds of hand-carried baggage. Passengers are responsible for the handling and safety of their own bags. Baggage carts are driven from terminals and parked on the vessel car deck to offer assistance.

The form of ID you'll need to travel on a ferry depends on the route and your nationality. On most international routes, you will need your passport to check-in. However, there are exceptions to this.

Some ferries have a luggage rack near the boarding area but in other cases you'll haul your bag up some stairs and can leave it in the seating area. If the ferry doesn't dock en-route, there's little chance of your luggage walking away.

Are ferries usually on time? Yes! Please note that the schedules indicate departure times. We recommend that you arrive at the terminal at least five minutes prior to the scheduled departure in order to board.

By entering the Ferry property, people agree to searches of their baggage,vehicle, person or property and to provide a photo ID upon request. The campus is under video surveillance. Before boarding, foot passengers will pass through a metal detector and have their bags checked.

Passengers are not allowed to bring alcoholic beverages on or off a vessel except for beverages that they are transporting as personal baggage in unopened containers, which may not be opened while the vessel is underway.

Ferry Concessions Please drink responsibly. Outside food and non-alcoholic beverages can be brought and consumed on board the ferry.
