As of February 2026, China has dramatically expanded its visa-exemption program to boost tourism and trade. Currently, citizens of over 50 countries can enter China visa-free for up to 30 days. This includes a permanent list of nations like Singapore, Thailand, UAE, Maldives, and Malaysia. Additionally, a "temporary" policy in effect through December 31, 2026, grants 30-day visa-free entry to citizens of most European nations (including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the UK), Australia, and—as of early 2026—Canada. Japan also regained its visa-free status in this recent expansion. For longer stays, some countries like Mauritius enjoy 60 days, while Albania and Armenia are granted 90 days. It is important to note that these exemptions are primarily for tourism, business, and family visits; travelers must still possess a passport with at least six months of validity and may be required to show proof of onward travel upon arrival at major hubs like Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou.
