What did Harry Potter replace Universal?

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened at Universal Studios Hollywood on April 7, 2016, Replacing The Adventures of Curious George which closed on September 6, 2013.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter did not replace a single attraction, but rather transformed entire themed lands across Universal's parks. In Islands of Adventure, Harry Potter – Hogsmeade (opened 2010) primarily replaced the Merlinwood section of "The Lost Continent." This included the re-theming of the Dueling Dragons coaster into Dragon Challenge (which was later replaced by Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure). In Universal Studios Florida, Harry Potter – Diagon Alley (opened 2014) replaced the iconic Amity Island area, which was home to the legendary Jaws ride. In 2026, the resort has expanded even further with the opening of Epic Universe, where the Ministry of Magic land has been built from the ground up on new land. The transition from Amity Island to Diagon Alley remains one of the most debated changes in theme park history, as it traded a classic mechanical shark encounter for the most immersive and technologically advanced "land" ever created at the time.
