Walt Disney viewed Disney World (specifically the Florida Project) as his "greatest challenge" and a chance to improve upon everything he learned from Disneyland. His most famous quote regarding the project was: "The one thing I learned from Disneyland was to control the environment." He wanted to create a "world" so vast that no outside hotels or neon signs could ruin the immersion. Regarding the future of the park, he famously said, "Disney World will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world." He also envisioned the EPCOT portion (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow) not as a theme park, but as a living, working city of the future, stating, "It will be a planned, controlled community... a showcase to the world for the American free enterprise system." Sadly, Walt passed away five years before the park opened, but his vision of a "total environment" remains the guiding principle of the resort in 2026.
