Before your first hot air balloon ride, you should know that it is a weather-dependent activity that usually requires a very early start, often meeting an hour before sunrise when the winds are calmest. You will be standing for the duration of the flight (typically 60 minutes), and space in the basket is limited, so leave bulky bags behind. Dress in layers; while it might be chilly on the ground at dawn, the heat from the balloon's burners can make it feel quite warm in the basket. Wear fully enclosed, comfortable shoes, as landings can occasionally be bumpy or occur in uneven fields. Most importantly, have a flexible schedule; flights are frequently rescheduled due to wind or rain for safety. Unlike a plane, the sensation of flight is incredibly smooth and quiet (except for the occasional roar of the burner), and because the balloon moves with the wind, you won't feel any breeze or turbulence, making it surprisingly comfortable even for those who fear heights.
