What do people wear in Queenstown in the summer?

Queenstown NZ doesn't have a beach vibe, it's more of a relaxed lake vibe, so sun dresses are fabulous for the vineyard tours and walking around town, but you should bring a wrap or lite coat in case the weather decides not to play nice.

In Queenstown, New Zealand, the summer (December to February) fashion is defined by the phrase "four seasons in one day." While daytime temperatures typically range from 20°C to 30°C (68°F–86°F), the alpine environment means it can cool down significantly as soon as the sun drops or a mountain front moves in. For daytime activities, people generally wear lightweight, breathable "activewear" or casual shorts and T-shirts, especially if they are hiking the Ben Lomond track or jet boating. However, a lightweight sweater or fleece and a high-quality waterproof rain jacket are essential items to carry in your daypack at all times. Because the New Zealand sun is exceptionally intense due to the thin ozone layer, a wide-brimmed hat and UV-protective sunglasses are standard "uniform" for locals and tourists alike. In the evenings, the vibe in town is "mountain casual"; you'll see people in jeans and a nice jacket or a flannel shirt at the bars along the waterfront, but very few people dress formally unless attending a specific event like a wedding at a nearby vineyard.
